Mt Nebo Church is a Tobacco Free, Alcohol Free facility
Shortly after Maury County was founded in 1807, pioneer families from Virginia and the Carolinas found their way to the Nebo Peaks. By the 1820s, families gathered on this hillside for worship at camp ground meetings that lasted as long as two weeks, always with fiery preachers sharing the gospel. This period of religious fervor is called the Second Great Awakening. The Mt. Nebo Methodist Episcopal Church was founded in 1835 on 7.5 acres given by John Alexander. The sanctuary that exists today was built in 1858, serving a growing farming community with later additions of a vestibule and bell tower and Sunday school rooms.
Sadly, Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church was deconsecrated in 2019; however, the building and grounds continue to serve the community, welcoming families who want a quiet, country church setting for a memorable event, just as they did 200 years ago.
